2012 KEYNOTE:
Our 2012 keynote speaker was Melissa V. Harris-Perry, professor of political science at Tulane University, where she is founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Project on Gender, Race and Politics in the South. She previously served on the faculties of the University of Chicago and Princeton University. Her academic research is inspired by a desire to investigate the challenges facing contemporary black Americans and to better understand the multiple, creative ways that African Americans respond to these challenges. She is also an award winning author and appears regularly on MSNBC and other media venues.

For more information, visit Melissa Harris-Perry’s website or watch her keynote speech from the Facing Race 2010 Conference. For a light-hearted discussion of her new book, SISTER CITIZEN: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America, check out her 1/9/12 appearance on the Colbert Report:
